Loukoumi Geroskipou, The First Cypriot Product with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI)

Loukoumi Geroskipou is the First Cypriot Product and the only of its Kind awarded with the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) by the European Union.  It is a great pride to our company that the Loukoumi Geroskipou has received this recognition since the application was submitted by us in December 2003 and finally granted on Jan 3, 2008

  • High-level “Conference on the Future of the Quality Policy of Agricultural Products and Foodstaffs”, Prague, 12th – 13th March 2009. Website of the Conference: www.qpc.cz
  • November 2009: Nine special seminars on the theme “Quality Products” were organized in 9 towns: Brno, Zlín, Prah, Ústí nad Labem, Plzeň, České Budějovice, Jihlava, Jičín, Pardubice. The seminars included lectures presented by 7 speakers on the following topics:
a) Labelling information – key elements for customers choice
b) How increase the foodstuff safety by means of correct labelling
c) Foodstuff quality and customer protection against false foodstuffs
d) Specific and quality symbols of regional and traditional foodstuffs 
e) Rules for production and trade with organic products 
f) Geographical indications and indications of origin of foodstuff and agricultural products

SERBIA (Republic of Serbia)

Events

According to the GI Law, MAFWM takes more responsible role in the whole GI system. A series of workshops are planned for producers, processors and consumers aiming at better understanding the GI concept and general increasing public awareness:
• Capacity building/training for MAFWM staff in the area of GIs
• Support in the establishment of an efficient control and certification system
• Support the improvement of the legal and overall institutional framework for GIs
• Assist producers in protecting GI and devepoling marketing strategies for their product
• Increase general public awareness on GIs (among producers, domestic consumers, and export markets)



SLOVAKIA (Slovak Republic)

Events

Seminars and workshops are at level of preparation and we are looking for some partners, experts. We are planning a seminar around December 2009 focused on control bodies which perform controls of products with GI on EU market. Next year, 2010, we plan to prepare regional information seminars for producers.
